Our Medical Services

Los Angeles Hand Doctor

While most hand injuries or symptoms associated with the hand are originally evaluated by a primary care physician or emergency room physician. Most hand problems are best referred to a surgeon with specialized training in hand surgery. Hand surgeons are involved in the management of acute injuries such as hand and wrist fractures, and hand infections at initial presentation. Depending on the history, the physical findings, and radiographic evidence, the treatment may be conservative, such as placement of a splint or cast, and/or use of medications such as analgesics and antibiotics. In more severe cases, hospital admission, and possibly surgery may be indicated.

In the less acute setting, hand surgeons are responsible for the management of cumulative trauma disorders, such as carpal tunnel syndrome of tenosynovitis which may result from prolonged irritation or injury in the work setting. Such problems are addressed most conservatively, with the aim to minimize pain and suffering, and to return the patient to a healthy and functional status. An Agreed or Independent Medical Examination are often performed by the hand surgeon in this setting.

State of the art techniques such as arthroscopy and microvascular surgery are commonly required to treat wrist injuries, vascular injury to the hand, arthitis, and trauma resulting in defects and amputations of the hand.
